Israel Trip Study Packet

This material has been prepared and assembled as an aid to those who are planning a trip to Israel.  Much of that material can be used as it is; in other cases the material directs the reader to books, articles or internet sites that would be good to consider.

You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to open these files. Most computers already have this program installed, but you can download it for free here if you don't already have it.

1)  Recommended Study Material       
This suggests some specific areas of study and catalogs some basic resources for each of those.

2)  Geography Notes
This is a basic introduction to the subject of Bible Geography.  It is certainly not exhaustive, but it does cover the basics.  It would be very helpful for the traveler to have considered and digested those basic elements.

3)  Brief History Notes
Throughout the trip the focus will again and again be upon the Old Testament narrative. Therefore the traveler is very well advised to have reviewed that narrative and have it fresh in his mind.  This document is a brief overview of that narrative which emphasizes not only the sequence of events but some of the themes and connections important to the narrative. 

4)  Overview of OT History and the Biblical Narrative
This is a chart to help the traveler read through the narrative portion of the Old Testament.  The chart includes a column headed “Chapters,” and the column is blank.  The intent is that the reader would identify the appropriate chapters in the course of the reading, and then fill in that column.  There are also columns for the reader to summarize each portion.  The chart is designed to help the reader digest the content of the OT narrative more thoroughly.

5)  Chart of the History of Jerusalem
This is a very basic chart which is designed only as an introductory overview.  However, it is very important that the traveler understand the basic eras that are described, and that he or she know the titles assigned those eras. 

6)  Orientation Information
This document includes a great deal of information concerning passports and visas, weather, packing, currency exchange, and so on.  I try to keep it updated, but some of it may be slightly out of date.  It will be very helpful in many ways.
